Plessy v. Ferguson
Black man wanted to sit on a white train but was kicked off. Allowed separate but equal facilities for whites and blacks. Facilities must be provided for both blacks and whites.
Brown v. Board of Education
Linda Brown a black girl wanted to go to a white school. Makes separate but equal, not really equal, over turning Plessy v. Ferguson .
Miranda v. Arizona
Miranda signed a paper saying he raped a girl. He claimed he did not know his rights. This is the reason police officers must read your rights, the Miranda rights, to you when you are arrested.
Tinker v. Kes Moines
A brother and a sister wore black arm bands to school protesting the Vietnam War but the principal made them take it off. Supreme court says the first amendment applies in school.
Roe v. Wade
Roe was raped and wanted an abortion but there was no record of the rape so they would not let her. Supreme Court said a fetus is not a living creature therefor legalizing abortion.
